Plein-Air Paint and Hike in Nordheimer Ravine with Anson Ng

Join us for a warm-up hike through Nordheimer Ravine, leading up to Casa Loma for breathtaking views of downtown Toronto from the top of Spadina. Along the way, we'll learn to see the landscape through the eyes of a plein-air painter and practice creating quick, expressive compositions.

A message from our Instructor Anson Ng: 

Plein-air painting is all about observation and change. During this hike, we’ll explore how change shapes what we observe through guided prompts and discussions. We’ll also take moments to learn new ways of seeing and understanding the land within an urban context. At the end of the hike, we will arrive at a viewpoint where we will paint on a small canvas.

About your instructor:

Anson Ng is a contemporary landscape painter whose practice explores the intersections of Canadian wilderness and Chinatowns, positioning both as integral components of the national landscape. Through themes of nature, seasonality, and their ability to reshape our understanding of everyday life, Ng’s practice examines the complexities and value of shared environments for community building and belonging. Start Point:  St. Clair West Station  [Google Maps Link] - We will set off at 9:00 a.m.. Plan to arrive at the start point at 8:45 a.m. sharp as we aren't able to wait for latecomers. 

End Point: Two blocks north of Dupont Station, at the base of the Spadina Stairs beside Casa Loma.. [Google Maps Link].  *Please note the Google Maps link is only set to Dupont st.

Pace of hike: 3.5 km per hour - Relaxed

Difficulty: Beginner

Dog-friendly: (MUST remain on leash) Yes

Family-friendly: (suitable for young people 17 and under) Yes

Stroller-friendly: (paved trails accessible for strollers) No

Requiring hiking boots: Recommended but not essential

Requiring walking poles: Not required

Registration fee: $20 + service fee, though if you cannot afford it, please contact us at letshiketo@gmail.com to request a discounted ticket based on your circumstances.

Limited tickets: This hike is restricted to 15 registrants. Tickets will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis, are non-refundable, and can’t be transferred to future events.

Pre-hike email: Registrants will receive additional details by email the day before the hike, such as what to bring on the day, what to wear, etc.

Weather precautions: The hike will take place regardless of rain, wind, or snow, so please dress accordingly! We will only cancel or postpone the hike if weather conditions.
